Futurism
My favorite futurism piece that the modernism class read together was "Incantation by Laughter" CLICK HERE
But I was equally surprised by how much I loved "The Little Car" and "Horse Calligram." Futurisms, despite being written so long ago, seemed so PRESENT and vibrant and alive as poems and experimentation. The Manifestos, the mix of text and image and artmaking
-- this is where my original impulse to explore the work this semester through hybridity and Paper Arts and bookmaking. What I loved learning about the futurists is that they practiced in multiple artistic mediums, from writing to sculpture to painting -- and that is something I wanted to embrace in my own Patchwork Project this semester. The booklet I put together for Futurism is a double-entry pamphlet with layered, transparent paper and text on top and on bottom, and typed pages copied and colored and pasted.
